13 BOMB [040209]

This is the 1/4 mark. Seems like a good milestone. Thanks for tuning in so far.

Imeem is still a problem, so use this to stream for now:

If I can find a way to get the song titles to show on the Odeo player, I'll switch to that. I don't mind the pink, either. I have had it up to here [reaches above computer] with Imeem. See below for details.

EMBED, FOR NO REASON, BECAUSE IT'S A 30 SECOND CLIP:

As you can clearly see, Imeem has not fixed the 30-second clip problem quite yet. It is not for
lack of effort on my part. Does anyone know of a similar service for online streaming? This is getting sort of ridiculous and is making me disproportionately angry. If you don't want to read the forum thread, here is how things went:

Me: My songs are playing for 30 second clips.

Imeem: They're probably not yours. Thief.

Me: They are mine.

Imeem: Then register them with SNOCAP and everything will be fine! SNOCAP will make sure that your rights to your music are secured worldwide and that Imeem can stream them GAR GAR GAR.

Me: Done. Still not working.

Imeem: You and your rational, results-based line of questioning are distracting. We now choose to ignore you. On a related note, we are now snarky at you for asking us to do what we said we would do.

Me: [angry]

Perhaps I should just find a new player. Actually, I know that I should find a new player. What I would like to do, however, is somehow compel the good folks over at Imeem to do what the fuck it is that they claim to be able to do. You know, make good on their promises. Answer inquiries emailed to their support desk. This seems beyond my power at this point.

Long story short, if I ever make an absurdly large amount of money, I will put some of it to use putting this miserable company out of business. Not that I'm bitter. That's just how capitalism works.*

*At least that's my understanding.

Song details:

This is a Frankensong of sorts. It started out maybe six or so years ago as a beat comprised entirely of that flute sample. It lasted forever. Then, about three of four years back, I shaped that into a little song called "I Got Skillz," which was pretty hilarious but also kind of gimmicky. It was all about how many "skillz" I had "got" at the time and contained lyrical gems like this:

I got so many skills I won't slip when I shower without a shower mat

I got so many skills I can make a striped shirt match with plaid mittens

and this winner:

I got so many skills, I'm skillful

That was one of my favorites.

Anyway, I scrapped that, and the never-ending flute sample, but kept the chorus, which came from the same song off of some random children's music sampler CD that I can't find anymore. I believe that the song is called "Pied Piper." The singer actually says "My music is the bomb," which I think is pretty hilarious. I think he was trying to cater to new demographics or something like that.

One of the coolest parts about this song is that the flute lines in the verses are played using samples from the original descending flute line. It makes the song more cohesive, at least to me.

That part at the end: yeah. That's something, I guess. It sounds cool as hell. I was experimenting with big, angry, wavy bass sounds on my Novation Bass Station and just ended up cramming a bunch of synths together to make that. Probably should be its own song. Maybe I'll make a spinoff.
Frasier to "Bomb's" Cheers. Joanie Loves Chachi.

Lyrically, this song is difficult to explain. It was hard to write, too. It's politically driven, but not quite as focused as I would have liked it to be. In fact, one of the reasons that I have kept away from writing political stuff recently (with a few exceptions) is that my general anger and disillusionment is so unfocused and scattershot that I don't really feel like I can put something together that is thorough enough to express how I feel. Also, rap lends itself really well to polemics, which are great for shit-talking but horrible for expressing political realities. To me, the nefarious aspect of what is happening today is not that there are killers and thieves and various other scum in the upper echelons of business and government; humanity runs the gamut, and bad people will always be everywhere. Rather, it is that they are allowed to operate with impunity. They can do shit wrong and get away with it.

...wait for it.

Just like Imeem.

Guess who got blogged?

I did, at yodigit.com. Here's the
link to my story. Here's a screen grab from the day I was featured. See me? Fun.

Sasquatch Hunter update:

I don't know if the video is going to see the light of day. It's a long story that involves the director not having software and working on the video on his girlfriend's computer, breaking up with the girlfriend, accusing her of being French and unreasonable, and not being able to retrieve the files. I'm really disappointed. Also that means I blew like $100 on old fur coats, gas, and highway tolls for nothing.

However, I will be offering Sasquatch Hunter t-shirts soon, which seems sort of stupid, now that there is no video. Here is the design, done by Cassandra. It looks sweet:

The shirts will be hand-screened and brown on lime-green, which will look awesome and nature-ish. Just like the beast himself.

I don't know if it is just a style you are going for, a habit, a crutch, or something else, but it seems you use the same/similar vocal pattern in many of your verses. i.e. the first 4 lines of this song. Is this intended? I much prefer the more varied delivery style you use directly following the first 4 lines of this song.

A close listener you are. I do tend to start slow, don't I?

Often, I think, I just need to start _period_, so I grab onto an A-A scheme and just go. And I don't do a whole lot of editing once I get something down, because of the whole having to get things done quickly part of this whole insane undertaking.

Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate it. I'll see what I can do to improve on my starts.

Give up on Snocap; try www.nimbit.com; much better.

Thanks.

I added a line of java from del.icio.us that identifies any mp3 link on the page. Think I might stick with this. We'll see how it works.
